Get help

Open an issue at https://github.com/arfct/silhouette/issues. Include your macOS version, your camera model, and a screenshot if you can.

The app also has built-in help: choose Help > Silhouette Help.

Setting up the virtual camera

1. Move Silhouette to the Applications folder and open it.
2. Allow camera access when asked.
3. Approve the camera extension in System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions > Camera Extensions.
4. In FaceTime, Zoom, or another video app, choose “Silhouette” as the camera.

Common questions

The Silhouette camera doesn’t appear in my video app. Check that the extension is approved in System Settings, then quit and reopen the video app. Some apps only scan for cameras at launch.

Edges flicker or the backdrop shows through. Light the backdrop evenly. Then click the colour swatch and click your backdrop, widen Color Range slightly, and add a little Shrink or Stabilize.

Green tint on hair or clothing. Raise Desaturate.

Can I use it without a green screen? Silhouette is a chroma keyer, so it needs a green or blue backdrop. To try the app without one, choose Sample video or Test pattern in the Source menu.
